4 Hectares of Standing Corn Destroyed By Fire

2 appliances from Launceston, 2 appliances from Callington and an appliance from Devon Fire & Rescue's Tavistock Fire Station attended a fire that destroyed about 4 hectares of standing corn. The crews worked for about an hour, using hosereels and beaters, to bring the fire under control and then remained on scene damping down hotspots for a further hour.
The last appliance returned at approximately 1845 hours. Arson is suspected, the police and the Arson Task Force are now dealing.
