Following numerous 999 calls, two fire appliances from St Just, two fire appliances from Penzance and the water carrier from Helston are in attendance at a fire involving about one kilometre square of deep-rooted gorse that is on fire. Firefighters have knocked the fire down using beaters and have set up a water relay to feed two hosereel jets to dampen around the edges to prevent further spread towards Trewellard village.
The fire will be smoldering overnight, residents nearby may wish to consider closing their windows.
Update 0130 hours: One crew from St. Ives are now in attendance and will be monitoring the incident until relieved at approximately 0700 hours.
