Fire In the Open

Cornwall Fire and Rescue service received multiple calls from a members of the public reporting trees on fire outside of Lidl, Penryn. One pump from Falmouth Community Fire Station was immediately mobilised by Critical Control.

On arrival the officer in charge confirmed a hedge on fire, measuring approximately five meters by 5 meters. Crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and one main jet.

The scene was left safe and arson was suspected for this incident.

Arson does not only threaten lives and damage property it has a detrimental effect on communities and the lives of people within them.

Anyone with information on fires being deliberately started are advised to anonymously call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111 or contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101 with information.
