Cornwall County Fire Brigade has put its High Volume Pumping Equipment ‘on the run’ and is waiting to see whether trained officers from the Brigade will be called to Hemel Hempstead.
The high volume pump is a new piece of equipment within Cornwall County Fire Brigade and is part of the national New Dimensions Programme, which all Fire and Rescue Services have undertaken.
Firefighters from the Training Department and Newquay Fire Station, where the pump is kept, have only just received training on how to use the pump. This will be the first day that Cornwall County Fire Brigade has put it ‘on the run’ in an effort to assist their colleagues in Hertfordshire and provide a South West resilience as firefighters from Somerset Fire and Rescue are already at the oil fire.
Three firefighters from the Brigade are waiting to see whether they will be needed in Hertfordshire. The National Co-ordination Centre in West Yorkshire, which is responsible for the mobilisation of all New Dimension equipment, will decide whether Cornwall is needed to assist.
If they are required they will pick up four firefighters from Devon Fire and Rescue to assist them.
