Owner Had Lucky Escape When His Boat Caught Fire

Penryn River, off Commercial Road, Penryn at 04/01/2006 03:59

Firefighters from Falmouth and Camborne attended a sailing vessel of about 25ft in length that was reported on fire about 50 yards from the quay. The vessel was laying on mud with the tide rising. The owner, on discovering the fire, escaped by wading across the mud.

Access to the boat was very difficult, so the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat from Falmouth was requested and a Coastguard Rescue Team also assisted. Firefighters were transported on the lifeboat and one jet was used to extinguish the fire. The boat was totally destroyed by the fire and as the tide rose, the vessel sank. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

The brigade would like to highlight the co-operation between emergency services and we are very grateful, once again, for the assistance given by the RNLI and Coastguard.
