Rubbish Fire Smoke Logs Block of Flats

2 appliances from St Austell were mobilised on an initial call to a fire alarm actuating. Subsequent calls confirmed a fire in the rubbish chute of the block of flats. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel to extinguish the fire in the skip at the bottom of the chute. Positive pressure fans were then used to clear the smoke from the building.
Arson is suspected, the police and the Arson Task Force are now dealing.
Although only rubbish was damaged by fire, smoke entering this residential building is distressing to the occupants.
Smoke is often the cause of fire related deaths.
