Gorse Fire

Starting shortly before midnight, the Critical Control Centre received numerous calls to a gorse fire at Bodmin Moor.

Resources from Bodmin and an officer were initially mobilised. On arrival, further resources were requested to deal with a mile long fire front. Additional resources attended from Lostwithiel and Launceston.

Shortly afterwards, further calls were received to the Bolventor area with reports of a further fire were developing. Initial appliances attending were from Callington and Launceston, along with an officer.

It was quickly established that further resources were required to deal with 4 fire fronts spread over a distance of 2 miles. Additional resources from Wadebridge and Lostwithiel were mobilised, along with several other resources to deal with the fire.

During this period, a further fire was reported in the Dozmary Pool/Draynes Valley area. One appliance from St Austell and resources from St Dennis attended.

A command point has been set up on Bodmin Moor as resources continue to deal with numerous fires.

Throughout the night, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service resources from many stations have been hard at work. Stations include Bodmin, Launceston, Callington, St Austell, St Dennis, Delabole, Wadebridge, St Just and Lostwithiel as well as 5 officers.

Over 80 personnel remain committed at this time.

The Police are also in attendance.

*Update at 0530 HRS* Police are requesting the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police on 101, quoting log 71 of 18/04/19. To report a fire, dial 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service.

*Update at 0640 HRS* Firefighters are defensively monitoring the area for any further hotspots. Resources are now starting to leave the scene.
