Gorse Fires

One appliance from St Austell was mobilised to a fire involving trees, gorse and some undergrowth. On arrival to scene a request for a second appliance was made for water. The fire covered a front of 100 metres and crews used hose reels and water back packs on the fire. At 18:54 crews had four hose reels and beaters in use on the fire front which was now 150 metres long, good progress was being made however a second fire was identified and a request for 'make pumps four' was made. The additional appliances were mobilised to separate locations. At 19:32 it was confirmed that the fires were under control and no further resources were required to attend. At 19:52 it was confirmed that all fire were extinguished, using a water shuttle from a hydrant crews remained on scene for some time cooling hot spots and damping down. This fire was confirmed as arson and Devon and Cornwall Police have been informed of the details.
