2 appliances from Redruth attended. The crews found that there had been a fire involving an electric fire which had spread to a sofa, in the living room. The occupant had extinguished the fire and the crew inspected to ensure all was safe. An ambulance attended for the female occupier who suffered a slight burn their hand and the effects of smoke inhalation.

The crews were detained a short time fitting smoke detectors, as there were none at the property.

Why smoke alarms?
On average 270 of the people killed in accidental fires each year don't have a smoke alarm.
Half of the deaths in home fires happen between 10pm and 8am.
A quarter of all people who die in home fires are asleep at the time.
