At 1206 today a fire engine from Helston was called out to attend a flat full of smoke at Wheal Rose in Pothleven. When the crew arrived at 1218 they found a second floor flat full of smoke which was caused by a pile of clothing set alight, at this time thought to be arson, in the kitchen of the flat below. The fire was extinguished with a hosereel by crews wearing breathing apparatus. Another crew from Mullion also attended the incident and a positive ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke from the property. Both crews were back on their own stations by 1330.
