Cornwall County Fire Brigade and Devon and Cornwall Constabulary are calling on residents of Hayle, and the surrounding area, to think before they park their cars in case their parking is stopping fire engines, ambulances and police cars getting through to the scene of an emergency.
The Fire Brigade is joining with Devon and Cornwall Police in a project designed to make local residents aware of the problems caused by indiscriminate parking.
The Hayle Safe Park Scheme calls upon local people to “THINK BEFORE YOU PARK” and warns that inconsiderate parking can delay emergency vehicles and, in some cases, the vital minutes lost could cost someone their life.
“People who park inconsiderately in places with narrow roads means fire engines can find it impossible to reach the scene of a fire - with disastrous - even fatal - consequences” said Steve Benney and John Navin, Hayle Safe Fire Officers.
Simon Dobson, Devon and Cornwall Police added: “We need to raise public awareness of the problems caused by inconsiderate parking outside houses - can the refuse vehicle get through ?- if not a fire engine or ambulance can’t get though either”.
Supporting the project the Mayor of Hayle Mrs Terry Lello said ““We feel it is important that residents in the town are made aware of the problems inconsiderate parking by some people is causing. In some cases the Fire Brigade and other emergency service vehicles may not be able to get through and these delays could cost someone their life.”
