At 1020hrs, fire appliances from St Austell and Bodmin Community Fire Stations responded to a possible fire in a room of an industrial building. Firefighters confirmed that, in fact, there had been a release of a hazardous vapour in a small laboratory.
An environmental support vehicle from Saltash and an incident command unit from Launceston attended to support the fire crews.
Firefighters wearing gas-tight chemical suits and breathing apparatus assisted site staff in ventilating the room, with advice from onsite specialists and Fire Service hazardous materials advisors. The firefighters have been decontaminated using facilities at the premises and are now returning. The incident has been handed over to the management at the site.
