Fire Involving Logs Placed On Woodburner

Lower Treluswell, near Penryn at 03/02/2006 14:28

Following a report from a concerned neighbour of a smoke alarm sounding and smoke inside a cottage, two appliances from Falmouth attended. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced an entry into the building to find the smoke was from logs on top of a woodburner. One hosereel was used to deal with the small fire.

This incident highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home. Their primary role is to alert occupants to a fire but they can also alert neighbours. On this occasion, realising there was a problem, the neighbour did the right thing and called the fire brigade. This meant that the firefighters were able to deal with a small fire before it had a chance to develop into something a lot more serious.
