Abandoned Building Fire

At 2258hrs the Critical Control Centre received a number of 999 calls from nearby residents stating a local abandoned building was on fire, with flames being seen coming through the roof.

Appliances from Fowey and St Austell were immediately mobilized alongside a wholetime officer. On arrival two additional appliances were requested and appliances from Lostwithiel and St Dennis were alerted.

Crews arrived to find a building approx. 30m by 15m was well alight and part of the roof had collapsed. Using hose reel jets and main jets the crews started the fire fighting effort.

Specialist vehicles joined the effort from Launceston (Incident Command Unit) and St Austell (Operational Support Vehicle).

The incident has been increased to 5 pumps, with St Columb Major crew being mobilized. The Incident Commander has sectorised the incident and firefighters are working to prevent fire spread.

**** Update @ 02:02hrs 28/12/2019
Firefighters on scene have confirmed that no hazards are present and the incident will be scaling down shortly. South West Water have been informed as the fire is being fought with water supplemented from nearby hydrants. The Police have also been informed of this incident.
