Large Fire In Open - Make Pumps 4

Pentire, Newquay at 28/03/2020 19:56

Critical Control received a number of 999 calls reporting a fire in the Pentire area of Newquay. Initially one appliance from Newquay Community Fire Station was sent to investigate, however as caller were reporting that the fire was spreading rapidly, an additional appliance from Perranporth Community Fire Station was mobilised. A Station Manager was also mobilised to act as Incident Commander. On arrival the Incident Commander requested urgent assistance and an additional two appliances, one from St Columb and one from St Dennis Community Fire Stations were immediately mobilised.

Crews were faced with significant fire spread across hedgerows threatening neighbouring properties, and covered an area measuring approximately 30 x 20 metres. The incident was sectorised into three sectors to enable the incident commander to better manage the incident. Crews surrounded the fire and used two main jets and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

This was initially a controlled burn which had become out of control. Please consider if you really need to be conducting controlled burning and bonfires at this time, as this can have a significant impact on our resources. If you are having a controlled burn, please take extra care and ensure it is always supervised.
