A man was lucky to escape when he awoke to find his house full of smoke. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus from Launceston and Callington used two hosereels and a jet to extinguish the fire by 0210hrs. An ambulance attended for the man, who was the only occupant, who was suffering smoke inhalation.

The fire left the kitchen area of the end-terraced cottage severely damaged and there was a small amount of fire damage to the roof.

Crews remained on scene damping down for some time.
