Our Critical Control Centre received a call at approximately 8:00am this morning from a concerned dog owner, reporting his dog had fallen down a shaft in the St Ives area.

Immediately an appliance from St Ives, a specialist line rescue vehicle from Tolvaddon and a Technical Rescue Officer were moblised.

On arrival it was confirmed a dog was down the shaft and the shaft was very overgrown, making safe access difficult initially.

Firefighters are currently making better access and setting up a rope recovery system to access the shaft.

One dog has been rescued safe and well. Crews are making up their equipment and will shortly be returning to their home stations
