Critical Control received a number of calls this afternoon reporting a commercial building was on fire at Launceston Retail Park. Appliances from Launceston, Callington and Liskeard were mobilised immidiately along with a wholetime officer.
When the first appliance arrived the officer in charge sent a message informing Critical Control that there was smoke issuing from building. An additional appliance from Launceston Fire Station was mobilised.
At 1649hrs the incident commander requested the attendance of an aerial ladder platform as fire had been detected in the roof space of the building. This was requested from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, as the closest ALP.
At 1706hrs the incident commander requested two further appliances to support the fire fighting efforts and to provide resilience for breathing apparatus wearers. He also confirmed all persons had been evacuated and accounted for from all the retail stores in the vicinity. The additional appliances were mobilised from Bodmin and Holsworthy.
At 1730hrs a message was sent to say the fire was believed extinguished and crews were monitoring for hotspots. An appliance from Devon and Somerset FRS used a fog spike to dampen down hotspots in the walls.
A fire investigation officer is liaising with Devon and Cornwall Police to investigate the cause of the fire.
