Cornwall County Fire Brigade hosted an awards’ ceremony that included the presentation of Long Service and Good Conduct Medals, Cornwall County Council 25 Year Medals, Certificates of Achievement and Letters of Congratulations to Brigade personnel at The Maritime Museum, Falmouth on Thursday 23rd February.
The Fire Brigade Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is awarded by her Majesty the Queen to honour those who have rendered long and meritorious service as members of Fire Brigades in the UK. The qualifying period for the award is a minimum of 20 years.
Those who received the Long Service and Good Conduct medals from Lady Mary Holborow were:
Divisional Officer Steve Brown (St Austell)
Assistant Divisional Officer Mark Boeck (Headquarters, Truro)
Sub Officer Mike Higginson (Bodmin)
Leading Firefighter Brian Webber (St Columb)
Firefighter Robert Fouracres (St Austell)
Firefighter Paul Backhouse (Bodmin)
All employees, on completion of 25 years’ service with Cornwall County Council are awarded a long service medal. Those who received the medal from Councillor Ken Yeo, Executive Member for Public Protection were:
Senior Fire Control Operator Tony Welch (Fire Control, Truro)
Sub Officer Rob Stacey (Newquay)
Leading Firefighter Paul Hitchens (St Austell)
Firefighter Kerrin Wilcock (Helston)
Firefighter Desmond Libby (Polruan)
Station Officer Mike Culley from St Columb Fire Station received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chief Fire Officer for his dedication to the role of retained firefighter in St Columb for more than thirty years.
Fire Cadet Jenny Hill received a Letter of Congratulation for her exemplary conduct and contribution to the community. Jenny used her First Aid Skills to assist a gentleman who collapsed. She placed him in the recovery position, maintained his airway and monitored his condition until an ambulance arrived.
The ten Fire Cadets who represented Great Britain and competed in the European Cadet Competition in Croatia last year were awarded Certificates of Achievement for their efforts.
Councillor Ken Yeo, Executive Member for Public Protection said: “These are fine examples of a dedication to a Service that aims to keep the people of Cornwall safe. I was pleased to be given the opportunity to show my appreciation and present the Cornwall County Council medal”
Chief Fire Officer Matt Littmoden added: “It is not just the personnel who work for Cornwall County Fire Brigade that give their time and commitment to the Service - it is their families as well. Congratulations to all the recipients of these awards and thank you to those that are at home supporting them”
