Chemical Incident

Carninney Lane, Carbis Bay at 09/09/2020 11:00


We are in attendance at an incident involving chemicals in the Carninney Lane area of Carbis Bay.

At this time, we have resources in attendance from St Ives, Penzance, Tolvaddon and St Just. We have 3 wholetime officers on scene. This is a multi-agency incident and our crews are working with other services on scene.

An exclusion zone is being set up. Devon and Cornwall Police are urging people to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed at this time.

Update 1430 hours: It was confirmed that there was a leak of Hydrogen Sulphide, working alongside colleagues in the Environment Agency the open water in the area was tested and they were happy with the water quality regarding public safety. Samples were taken from Carbis Bay Beach right back to the source of the spill. All crews are preparing to leave the scene at this time. This was a well co-ordinated incident involving Cornwall Fire & Rescue, South West Ambulance Service Trust, Devon & Cornwall Police, the Environment Agency, Coastguard, RNLI and Cornwall Council.
