Fire At Hospital

At 09:32hrs Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, reported a automatic fire alarm had activated in the Tower Block of the hospital. An appliance from Truro Fire Station was immediately mobilised.

On arrival the incident commander requested a further three appliances, due to smoke coming from a room in the building. Firefighters entered the building to investigate, located a fire and used CO2 extinguishers.
Treliske Hospital is one of our largest and complex buildings in the County, the attendance of multiple appliances provides additional crew and equipment to prepare for, but also to prevent, escalation. Two Fire Officers also attended to provide incident command support.

Staff from the hospital followed their procedures and performed an evacuation. It was confirmed that all persons were accounted for.

At 09:56hrs, the incident commander sent a message to our Critical Control Centre saying the fire was believed to be out, firefighters were will investigating to ensure no further areas of fire. The firefighters also used small tools to aid ventilation of the affected area.



** Update @ 1030hrs **
Appliances are still on scene and firefighters are investigating further activations of fire alarms in the Tower Block. At this time they are all believed to be activated due to smoke from this incident.

** Update @ 1100hrs **
Appliances are now starting to leave the incident. All activations of fire alarms in surrounding areas have been confirmed to be activated by smoke from this incident. An initial Fire Investigation is being done. The cause has been classed as accidental and the fire was confined to a small area.
