Property Fire

THE SALTINGS, LELANT, ST IVES at 05/04/2006 22:33

When two crews from St Ives Fire Station arrived at a detached property at 2245 on Wednesday 5th April the garage of the property was well alight. A third fire engine from Penzance was called to the scene as was a water carrier from Newquay and a crew from Camborne. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used hosereels and 3 main jets to fight the fire which spread to the roof and upper floors of the detached house. Western Power attended to isolate the electric supply and the fire was thought to be under control at 0147 but then re-ignighted in the roof space. At one time 25 fighters were at the scene. By 0500 all but one crew from Camborne had left the scene. The Camborne crew remained until 0745 checking to make sure no hot spots reignighted. The fire started in the meter box in the garage.
