Cornwall Fire Brigade attended a large fire in St. Ives which involved a cafe and several other properties, over four floors, in the harbour area. Firefighters from St Ives, Penzance, St. Just, Camborne, Helston, Truro, Falmouth and Redruth attended, also the aerial ladder platform from Newquay, the operational support vehicle from Truro and the breathing support unit from Falmouth attended, at one stage there were persons reported at the scene. Several teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed at the incident, several water jets and hosereels were used at the scene, the aerial ladder platform acted as a water tower using a jet to extinguish the fire. Over 60 Brigade personnel were on scene at the height of fire. The fire was brought under control at approximately 0030 hours, and all persons were accounted for. One appliance remained on scene throughout the night checking the area for hot spots and damping down. A Fire Investigation Team attended the incident on Saturday morning to ascertain the possible cause of the fire. Crews from St. Ives were also mobilised on the Saturday morning as there were some hotspots reported, these were extinguished and the the crew checked out the remainder of the building.
