Whether you live, work or are visiting the county Cornwall County Council want you to stay safe, and have produced a handy leaflet to help you do just that.

The 'Staying Safe in Cornwall' leaflet has been produced in partnership by Adult Social Care, Trading Standards, Cornwall County Fire Brigade and Emergency Planning.

The leaflet provides people with practical advice in the following situations:
X What to do in an emergency
X Keeping safe at home
X And Staying safe in the community

"The aim of the leaflet is to promote awareness of how to stay safe in everyday life. It is aimed at all age groups because we want people to be and feel safe both in their working and leisure time"
said Councillor Ken Yeo, Executive Member for Public Protection

The leaflet is an outcome of the County Council's Community Safety Best Value Report. The report was commissioned in 2004 and has just been published.

Ken cont: "One of the purposes of the Best Value Report was to propose an improvement plan which would have an impact on improving Community Safety for the public. Producing something that promotes safety in all aspects of every day life is one small part of this"

Tony Penrose, Community Safety Officer, Cornwall County Fire Brigade said "Community safety is not the responsibility of just one agency or department; it is a network of partners responsible for improving the safety of Cornwall¡¦s communities"

These partners include Adult Social Care, Children Young People and Families, Trading Standards, Cornwall County Fire Brigade, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Emergency Planning and the NHS.

"The County Council is committed to initiatives promoting partnership, community leadership and cohesion together with reducing crime, the fear of crime, anti-social behaviour, drug related crime and the use of illicit drugs" said Mike Langshaw, Commissioning and Partnerships Officer, Adult Social Care

The departments and organisations that have been involved in producing the 'Staying Safe in Cornwall' leaflet will be promoting their work all day on Tuesday 30 May in the Long Gallery, New County Hall, Truro.
