Fire In Scrap Yard - Final Update 1345hrs

Two fire appliances from St Austell, 2 fire appliances from St Dennis and the water carriers from Newquay and Bodmin attended a large fire involving an auto recycling yard, measuring about 40 metres by 20 metres. There were several cylinders involved, some of which exploded and a power line burnt through. Numerous calls were received in the Truro based Fire Control and smoke from the fire was seen from as far away as Plymouth.
Firefighters set up ground monitors to fight the fire from a safe distance until it was safe to get closer and use 2 jets to extinguish the fire. Crews remained in attendance damping down, with the last fire appliance leaving at 1330hrs.
