Fire Residential

Fowey at 28/03/2024 09:52

Crews from Fowey and St Austell were mobilised to a house fire near Fowey, along with a wholetime officer. On arrival crews found the fire had been extinguished by the occupant, who was suffering from slight smoke inhalation. The fire was accidental and caused by a lithium-ion battery.

GET OUT - GET THE FIRE SERVICE OUT - STAY OUT

If there is a fire in your home, you need to leave the building immediately closing doors and windows where safe do so. When you are safely outside dial 999 and ask for the fire service. NEVER re-enter a building on fire, even if you think it is only for a short period. Fire can behave in different ways in different environments, and the situation can change very quickly.

If, due to heat, smoke or flames, you are unable to leave your home, try and stay calm and choose a room that you can go in. Once you're in, shut the door behind you and put blankets or something similar at the bottom of the door to prevent smoke from getting in. If you've not already, use a phone to call 999, or alternatively if you haven't got a phone handy, try opening the window and shouting for help.

Await the arrival of the fire crew and follow their exact instructions carefully. Stay on the call to the control room unless told otherwise. They may want to ask additional questions that will help with your safe rescue and will normally only end the call once you have been rescued.
