Sub Officer Tim Cocks from Cornwall County Fire Brigade attended the Respect Awards Ceremony in Birmingham on 6 September 2006 to collect a ‘Respect Award for Taking a Stand’.
In May 2006 Tim Cocks was awarded £1000 in recognition of all the hard work and commitment that he has achieved for tackling anti-social behaviour and making the community a better place to live. He was invited to an official ceremony in Birmingham to collect his award.
Tim Cocks is the lead officer on the Phoenix Project. The Phoenix Project was launched in September 2002 by Cornwall County Fire Brigade. The
aim of the Phoenix Project is to invest in young people. During a week long initial course students take part in activities aimed at improving self-esteem, self discipline and responsibility. This is achieved by employing fundamental fire service principals of Communication, Teamwork and Discipline.
Karen Harvey from Helston Community College nominated Tim for the award:
“What Tim has achieved with the young people he has worked with deserves recognition. He doesn’t just do his day job; he cares about the students and wants to see them enthused, growing in confidence and achieving”
Tim Cocks added: “I am proud to receive this award on behalf of the Phoenix Project and Cornwall County Fire Brigade. I think investing in young people is extremely important and worthwhile, especially when you witness first hand the positive differences our project has made”
