Chip Pan Fire

The brigade was called this morninhg at 0056hrs to a chip pan fire. The occupier was alerted by his smoke detector, which probably saved his life. He was suffering the effects of smoke inhalation and was given oxygen by the responding crews as a precaution. The fire involved a chip pan and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the fire using a carbon dioxide extinguisher.

General Fire Safety Advice:
CHIP PANS CAN HURT MAIN OR KILL. PLEASE TAKE CARE.
Never fill a pan more than one-third full of fat or oil.
Never leave the pan unattended when the heat is switched on.
Never put the food in the pan if the oil begins to give off smoke. Turn off the heat and leave the oil to cool, otherwise it could catch fire.
