Cornwall businesses are being warned not to be deceived by a telephone scam that seems to be targeting both Cornwall and Devon. Last week Devon Fire and Rescue Service issued a press release following a call from a concerned hotel owner in North Devon. Cornwall fire officers have now received a similar call from a resident in Truro.
“Businesses should be wary of sponsorship requests or other demands for money or services. Cornwall County Fire Brigade is not making any such calls of this nature and it is a criminal offence for any person to impersonate a fire officer. If you are suspicious try and record as many details as possible to help lead us to the fraudsters” said Public Relations Officer Davinia Grist
Should anybody have concerns regarding the legitimacy of fire service personnel, we would ask them to request to see an ID card. All Cornwall County Fire Brigade personnel carry an authorised identity card, which may be checked prior to any visit or inspection. Alternatively you can ring 01872 273117 for verification.
