Firefighters from Newquay were pleased to accept a children’s motorised fire engine from The Bedruthan Steps Hotel this week. The mini fire engine will help raise money for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.
The engine will be based at Newquay Fire Station but will be available to all other fire stations across the County at open days or other charity publicity events.
The Fire Services National Benevolent Fund is an organisation which was established to assist serving and former members of the Fire Service and their immediate dependents. It offers financial support, rest, recuperation and therapy at one of its three centres.
‘We are absolutely delighted to donate one of our fabulous mini fire engine’s to Newquay Fire Station” Debbie Wakefield, Director of Bedruthan Steps Hotel proclaimed.
‘Not only will the little engine be put to good use allowing hundreds of tiny would-be fire officers the opportunity to enjoy a ride on a mini version of the big one they see, it will also help raise money for the fire brigade’s benevolent fund, which is a very worthwhile cause and one that is close to our hearts.
“Having had the good fortune of working with Newquay Fire Station over the years we felt it was only fitting that we should give something back as our way of saying thank you to the hard working men and women who have serviced us well, from the very early days when the hotel was launched through to the present day” Mrs Wakefield added.
Davinia Grist, Public Relations Officer said: “Firefighters across the county never tire of inventing innovative ways of raising money for the Benevolent Fund. In the past this has ranged from fashion shows to car washes to carribean party night here at Newquay. The mini fire engine will help us to entertain the children that visit and raise even more for this highly regarded charity”
