Firefighters from Redruth, Camborne, Truro Falmouth and Penzance as well as the specialist ladder platform and the control unit were called to a fire involving two buildings on the site of the old brewery in Redruth.
Firefighters were faced with two fires in two different buildings. The first fire was already well developed and had gone through the roof (which contained asbestos). The second fire was smaller and they were able to go into the building to fight it - and stop it spreading any further.
They worked hard to bring the fire under control, with firefighters fighting the fire from above in the aerial ladder platform.
The police were called to help with traffic and public control.
The public were asked to stay away from the area and to keep their doors and windows closed. However there was no need to evacuate the area.
55 firefighters were needed to deal with the intensity of the fire.
At 6pm the fire was completely under control and the number of firefighters needed decreased.
A full fire investigation has now taken place and the cause of the fire is believed to be arson. Anyone with any information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
