Firefighters from Newquay, some wearing breathing apparatus, used two hosereels to extinguish a fire in a first floor flat. On arrival the crews were unable to ascertain if any persons were trapped inside, so a search of the flat was made. Fortunately, the occupants were out but unfortunately the flat was severely damaged by fire and smoke and therefore not habitable. There was also water damage to another flat and the two families involved will be temporarily re-housed.
Fire Safety Advice:
The flat involved in this fire did not have a working smoke alarm.
Smoke alarms give an early indication of a fire, which could help you and your family to get out safely. They could also warn neighbours, who could call the Fire Brigade even before any visible signs of fire can be seen outside. The quicker the firefighters are in attendance, the better chance they have rescuing any persons trapped and limiting the damage caused by the fire.
