The fire involved an upstairs bedroom of a detached 3 storey house, about 12m by 12m. 2 crews from Falmouth and later a crew from Redruth used breathing apparatus and 2 hosereels to contain the fire to the one room.
Assistant Divisional Officer Chris Rickett, the Incident Commander, praised the actions of the owner who discovered the fire. Quickly realising that it was too dangerous to attempt to extinguish the fire he closed the door to that room and used a water extinguisher to wet the edges. This action slowed the progress of the fire which had the potential to have devastating effects.
Crews remained on scene to assist with salvage and check for any fire spread, leaving at about 0130hrs.
