A lifeskills event for local school children is being held at Truro Fire Station from the 12th to the 14th of June.

The event is being supported by Westcountry Ambulance, Western Power, Truronian, Carrick Building Control, Shelter Box and Cornwall County Fire Brigade.

This is the fifth year the ‘lifeskills’ event has been held at the fire station and they have proved invaluable.

425 children will visit the fire station this year to acquire knowledge and the necessary life skills to deal with a variety of incidents in the future.

The schools taking part this year are Archbishop Benson, Treyew, St Marys, St Erme, Trispen, Kea, Chacewater, Portreath, Mithian, Threemilestone, Tregolls, Probus, Devoran and Perranporth.

“The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the risks children may face in the future” said Community Fire Safety Advisor Sarah White.

She cont: “Safety is the key message. When the children visit the fire brigade they will learn about the importance of a working smoke alarm and how they should make an escape plan with their family. The children will also get to watch a practical demonstration of a chip pan fire”
