A meeting with the members of the Local Resilience Forum for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly was hosted by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary yesterday.
A number of representatives from Cornwall County Council including Officers from Cornwall County Fire Brigade and Emergency Planning attended the meeting as they have the ability to assist with the flooding in Gloucestershire.
“We discussed the best way of supporting our colleagues and the community of Gloucestershire, and what flood defence resources are available in the county” said County Emergency Planning Officer Steve Winston
“This is the usual practice should any similar event occur in the country. Cornwall County Fire Brigade has already sent nine specially trained firefighters to assist with high volume pumping. We have sent a further seven today to act as reliefs” said Deputy Chief Fire Officer Ted Simpson
The local resilience forum discussed how to provide assistance in a number of ways. Whilst this means the potential release of equipment and staff the service provision to the area of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has not been compromised.
Steve Winston added: “Although there is further rain forecast in this area it is not predicted to be at the same level as that in Gloucestershire. All the agencies involved are confident that our resources can be released safely”
