Crews from Redruth, and a Decontamination unit from Camborne attended a chemical incident on Sandy Lane this afternoon. A 5 litre canister of an unknown chemical had fallen onto the road and some of the contents had leaked onto the road surface. Where the chemical had come into contact with the road, the road appeared to be smoking. After consultation with an Officer trained in dealing with Hazardous Materials, the canister was sealed in two overdrums. The hazardous chemicals will be disposed of by a licensed contractor. The Environment Agency have been informed of the incident details. Crews then washed down the road surface with 1800 litres of water to dilute to chemical.
