Over 30 Firefighters Tackled Gorse Fire - Updated 1500hrs

Over thirty 999 calls were received in Fire Control, Truro reporting a gorse fire. Firefighters from Camborne and Redruth were mobilised. The crews had difficulty gaining access to the fire. Beaters are being used to extinguish about one hectare of gorse that is alight.

1945hrs - Two further crews have been requested to assist. These will be attending from Falmouth and Truro.

2100hrs - 4 hectares of gorse are now alight being fanned by high winds. Just over thirty firefighters are now in attendance tackling this blaze.

2200hrs - The fire is now under control. Good progress has been made to extinguish the fire. A light pump and a jet are being used to damp down hotspots. Crews are expecting to remain in attendance for a further hour.

2359hrs - Most of the crews have left the scene. Firefighters from Redruth remain, damping down hotspots. One jet is still in use.

0220hrs - Fire has now been fully extinguished and the crews have left the scene.

0330hrs - Firefighters have been called back to the scene following reports that the fire has re-ignited.

0500hrs - Firefighters from Camborne, Redruth, Perranporth and St Ives are now in attendance.

0530hrs - 150 metre fire front in high gorse. One jet in use.

0600hrs - Fire front has been reduced to about 20 metres.

0630hrs - The fire front has been knocked down. Crews will be detained some time damping down.

0700hrs - Crews from Camborne and Perranporth remain damping down.

1500hrs - Two crews from Perranporth damped down hotspots all morning and have now finally left the incident.
