Firefighters from Penzance and Camborne worked alongside the Coastguard in removing a drum, labelled as containing Phosphoric Acid, from the beach. The drum was believed to have been about three quarters full but was not leaking. Phosphoric acid is corrosive and can cause skin burns.
Firefighters have secured the drum and with the help of the Coastguards, it has been left in a safe location for collection by specialist contractors.
This incident is a good example of how the Coastguard and Fire Brigade working together have removed a harmful substance from a public area to prevent anyone coming to harm.
