Six Pump Fire - Updated 1545hrs

Fifty firefighters from West and Mid Cornwall fought a fire, this morning, involving a derelict guest house.

The first of over twenty 999 calls was received at the Fire Control in Truro at 0622hrs, reporting the three storey building, measuring 10 metres by 12 metres, well alight. Two fire appliances from St Ives and one fire appliance from Camborne were mobilised.

When the first crews arrived from St Ives the fire was "through the roof" and further fire appliances were requested including an aerial ladder platform. These came from Penzance, Camborne, and Helston with the aerial ladder platform coming from Newquay. A water carrier from Penzance, the command support vehicle from Truro and an operational support vehicle from Falmouth also attended.

Firefighters used three jets and the aerial ladder platform to bring the fire under control. Crews are still in attendance damping down.

A joint investigation is underway with the police to determine the cause of the blaze.

1330hrs - A relief crew from St Just are now in attendance damping down using one jet.

1545hrs - St Just crew have now left the scene.

Arson is suspected as the cause of the fire and the police are now dealing.
