Fire Service Recommended As 'top Priority'

at 08/10/2

Members of the Community Policy and Scrutiny Committee recommended that Cornwall County Fire Brigade should be identified as a ‘top priority’ in the three year budget 2008 / 09 to 2010 / 11 at their meeting on 4 October 2007.

At the committee meeting Members received a briefing from Chief Fire Officer Matt Littmoden about the fire service budget pressures and The Penhallow Hotel fire in Newquay.

Following the briefing Members agreed to recommend that the Fire Brigade’s Integrated Risk Management Plan (Service Plan) Single Issue Panel should conduct an assessment of the fire service countywide.

The Community Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee also agreed to consider information from the forthcoming report on the fire at the Penhallow Hotel and the outcome of a risk assessment of the County before further recommendations on changes in fire cover provision are made to the County Council.

An investigation is still underway into the cause of the fire at The Penhallow Hotel, Newquay. It is likely that the investigation will not be completed until next year (2008).
