A large haul of illegally stored fireworks have been seized from a house in Redruth.
The fireworks were seized after the police received information and complaints from the public.
The complaints stated that children as young as eight or nine years old were in possession of large boxes of fireworks and, regardless of the dangers, were setting them off in the parks and streets. As a result the whole of St Day was strewn with litter and debris.
Fireworks are only sold at certain times of the year. Officially they can be purchased between October 15th and November 10th plus 26th December to 31 December and the celebrations of The Chinese New Year and The Hindu Festival of Lights (Diwallis).
There are curfews on the use of fireworks between 11pm and 7 am except during the festivals just mentioned. It is illegal to supply adult fireworks and sparklers to anyone under the age of 18 and it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess adult fireworks in a public place.
People storing fireworks for sale must apply to the fire brigade for registration in order to ensure safety requirements are followed. Failure to comply can result in prosecution.
These guidelines and rules have been set to reduce danger to the public and prevent public nuisance and anti-social behaviour.
