Property Fire

Boyton, Launceston at 22/10/2007 06:32

Both appliances from Launceston attended this incident. On arrival at the incident it was found there was a fire in the ground floor of a cottage. Crews cut away the floor boards and used a hosereel to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
The fire started in the chimney of the property and damaged the ground floor and caused smoke damage to the first floor. There was no working smoke alarm in the property.

EXCUSES KILL - GET A SMOKE ALARM
Why smoke alarms?
On average 270 of the people killed in accidental fires each year don't have a smoke alarm.
Half of the deaths in home fires happen between 10pm and 8am.
A quarter of all people who die in home fires are asleep at the time.
Over the last five years, more than 70 people have been killed every year because their smoke alarms didn't work - usually because the battery was flat or missing.

Now is the time that members of the public should be aware of chimney fires. For more information follow the link below.
