Firefighters from St Austell and Fowey were called to a shed on fire this evening. Two acetylene cylinders were involved in the fire. Because of these a 200 metre exclusion zone has been set up.
The emergency services, the highways department and Cornwall County Council's Emergency Planning Department are working together to set up this exclusion zone.
The A390 has been closed and the branch train line has also been shut.
30 houses in Aberdeen Close and Rebecca Close have been evacuated and the occupiers have been taken to Polkyth Leisure Centre.
Anyone living in that area should head to Polkyth Leisure Centre.
The exclusion zone will need to remain in place for 24 hours.
The fire is nearly extinguished. Firefighters will need to remain at the site to keep the acetylene cylinders cool for the next 24 hours.
