Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire in domestic premises where the cause was attributed to a fault in a timer switch.
It was ascertained that the manufacturer has acknowledgement of the fault and the owner of the premises is now in the process of settling a claim.
The manufacturer, Greenbrook Electricals Plc, 62 West Road, Harlow, Essex, CM20 2BG have issued a safety warning for the following models of timer (seven in all):
T21HA-C, T22HA-C, T23HA-C, T65A-C, T69A-C, T70A-C, T71A-C all supplied since July 2006.
The problem involves the terminal blocks with screws that have not been tightened sufficiently. This leads to excessive temperature and ultimately was the cause of the fire above.
The safety note explains the actions that a competent person can take to rectify the problem.
Greenbrook Electricals have been in contact with Essex Trading Standards. A product recall has been initiated via B&Q and other wholesale stockists.
This is brought to the attention of other Fire and Rescue Services because a large number of the units will have been sold as cash sales with no immediate possibility of the units whereabouts being traced.
A letter has been sent from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to Greenbrook Electricals indicating our concerns following the fire.
