Phosphorous Grenades Uncovered In Field

Trewetha, Port Isaac at 17/11/2007 11:53

A chemical reaction occurred when one of a number of phosphorous grenades broke causing it to flare up, when it was uncovered in a field.

Firefighters from Delabole, Wadebridge and Bodmin attended and an exclusion zone was set up of at least 500 metres. It was necessary to close the B3267 into Port Isaac to ensure public safety.

Firefighters stood by until a Bomb Disposal Unit attended to make the grenades safe. This involved detonating them and waiting for them to burn out. The firefighters then damped down to make the scene safe, leaving the incident at 1730hrs.
