Two fire appliances from Penzance were quickly on scene following reports of smoke issuing from the windows of a flat.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel to extinguish the fire in the kitchen of the second floor flat, which has caused considerable smoke damage.
An ambulance attended for one person suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
The police also attended to assist with traffic control as the fire appliances were blocking the one-way system.
