The first of two fire appliances from Falmouth was in attendance within five minutes of the initial 999 call reporting a house fire with people still inside. As the crew arrived they could see smoke and flames coming from the ground floor of the terraced property and a further fire appliance was requested. This attended from Truro.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel and one jet to extinguish the fire by 0925hrs, when it was confirmed that all persons were accounted for. Five people have been taken to hospital by ambulances suffering smoke inhalation and shock.

An investigation in to the cause of the fire is underway.
