Outside HM Coastguard Station, Pendennis Point, Falmouth at 12/02/2008 12:03
Two fire appliances and an Operational Support Vehicle from Falmouth and the rescue tender from Camborne attended following a request from the Coastguard to assist in the rescue of casualties trapped in a car, that had come off the road and gone over the cliff onto rocks.
The fire crews worked closely with ambulance personnel and coastguard to rescue the casualties. One casualty was airlifted from the cliff by 1315hrs by a Royal Navy search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and taken to hospital. The helicopter then returned to airlift to hospital a second casualty by 1350hrs.
The fire crews then made the vehicle safe and left the incident in care of the police.
There are no details about the condition of the casualties available from the brigade.
This incident, once again, has demonstrated how the emergency services in Cornwall work closely together to help those in trouble.
