Small Fire Involving Joss Stick

Firefighters from St Columb attended a report from a passing Police Community Support Officer of a fire alarm actuating with a smell of burning. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and following an investigation found that the smoke was from a joss stick that had burned down, igniting a plastic beaker. The fire was already out and an inspection was made to ensure all was safe.

General Fire Safety Advice:
Great care should be taken when using candles and joss sticks, so follow this simple fire safety advice:
Always place candles and joss sticks well away from curtains, furniture and drapes and always out of draughts.
Keep them out of reach of children and pets.
Never leave a burning candle or joss stick unattended.
Keep them away from hair and clothing.
Always place candles upright in suitable holders which cannot fall over easily.
Always make sure that candles are properly extinguished, especially before going to bed.
