Firefighters from Lostwithiel extinguished two bonfires using one hosreel. Because they were unattended, the crew were concerned that they may spread.
General Fire Safety Advice:
If you intend to have a controlled burn:
- do not burn close to any other combustible materials, such as fences or sheds
- ensure that you have the means to extinguish it
- ensure that you have the means to summon the fire brigade, such as a mobile telephone, should it get out-of-hand
- consider the effects of the smoke on your neighbours, so that you do not cause a nuisance, preferably inform them of your intention to burn
- please ring Fire Control on 01872 320205 just before you start, giving the exact location of the burn, your contact telephone number (mobile preferably) and your name. This should prevent any unnecessary mobilising of fire appliances, if anyone reports your fire, thinking that it is not controlled
- at the completion of the burn, please inform Fire Control again using 01872 320205
- NEVER leave a fire unattended
